A truly fabulous wedding with truly scrumptious cakes
I cannot believe it has taken me so long to blog about this, as it was one of the most fabulous days I have ever had! It was the day bake-a-boo’s lovely Leon married my gorgeous and wonderful friend Vanessa. Aren’t they just adorable?
Leon and Vanessa got married on 24th October in Wiltons music hall – as they are both actors they decided to get married on the stage!! It was such a wonderful and fabulous day, and knowing both Leon and Vanessa so well, this wedding was full of personal touches that made the day ‘so them’. The ceremony was very special, followed by a delicious meal and dancing the night away – in fact there are muscles in my feet that still hurt one month on!
Somewhere in between all the fun – we all had cake! The cakes, naturally were bake-a-boo cakes, although without the groom himself around to help me, it was a challenge for me doing it all by myself – but I have to say I had so much fun making these cakes, and I can honestly say that they were made with love!
After several discussions over dinner, tea, bubbly and mulled wine! Vanessa and I discussed the cakes and she decided she wanted a selection of different cakes – all to be different and in different shapes and sizes to be displayed as a ‘collection of cakes’ and all topped with a single vintage bride and groom topper. So we collected vintage cake toppers for months – some travelled all the way from America and slowly the box built up.
As a suprise for Leon and Vanessa, in keeping with the bride and groom topper theme, and knowing their fun spirit, I also decided to do a ‘barbie cake’ as the bride and groom and hunted high and low for the ‘right’ barbie and Ken to replicate Leon and Vanessa – you wouldn’t think this was so hard, but believe me it was – Ken had a blue jacket in the end which we had to colour in black!! Anyway luckily this went down extremely well and Vanessa and Leon LOVED the barbie bride and groom cake!!! Xanthe Berkeley (the photographer) has captured their reaction nicely here…
So all in all we had 11 delicious cakes and guests were called up to choose their cake slices, served by the bride and groom themselves.
This was a truly magical day and I was so happy not just to be there as a guest but also to be a real part of it by making the cakes. These cakes tired me out, but I sooooo enjoyed making them and I had such fabulous reactions on the day.
You can see a little video here made by Xanthe Berkeley to show the collection of cakes in all it’s glory.
Congratulations Leon and Vanessa, two of my favourite people in the world!! I love them dearly and I’m so glad they have now become one!

Let them eat cake and be happy forever! xxx
