cookbook tales
The bake-a-boo bakery cookbook has been out for two months now – it seems like only yesterday we were celebrating at the launch – time certainly flies! I’ve had some lovely responses from people in many different forms – from people tweeting pictures of their creations, to some lovely emails and cards, and I’ve also had lots and lots of phonecalls with people asking advice about all sorts of things – ‘can I add this?’ ‘can I change that’ ‘what do you advise for this etc’ and I think people are genuinely happy that they get to speak to me personally at the shop, as I can answer most of their questions.
I wanted to share one email here that I received which made me smile. When I read this I was reminded of myself, when I was told I could not eat gluten anymore I struggled to find treats I liked and that is perhaps how bake-a-boo was born in the first place, so I’m so happy that I can offer something to people like this lady, and other people like myself and her! and I really appreciate her taking the time to write to me. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.
“Hello! - I just wanted to say a big thank you for the delicious gluten free recipes in your ‘Bake-a-Boo’ cookbook. As a coeliac I don’t normally pick up cookbooks that don’t have gluten-free splashed across the front cover but something about your cookbook made me pick it up and glance through – I was so happy to see so many gluten free recipes in there
I have only been a coeliac for 3 years and have missed cakes and fairy cakes especially as my Mum constantly made such delights at home. I have tried other gluten free recipes for fairy cakes/cupcakes but they have never tasted like anything I’d want to make again. It was with sheer joy that I took the g/f boo cakes I made from your book from my oven and after tasting them I thought I was dreaming …. they were just delicous and those I reluctantly shared them with couldn’t believe they were gluten free. I have since made the chocolate cupcakes too and they are equally as divine! – Again, thank you – it is so wonderful to be able to enjoy fairy cakes again “
Although our cookbook is not a gluten free cookbook, or a cookbook for people with allergies, I’m glad that many people can still find something within the book if they do have some food allergies and intolerances.
Thank you Edwina – happy baking! xx
